Are you ready for the largest Scouting event in the world? This year JOTA-JOTI is “Celebrating 60 Years of Connecting Scouts”! With over 1 million Cubs, Scouts and Guides from 150+ countries taking part each year, it is a not be missed online and on air jamboree!
Scouting members get to share their experiences and adventures using the Internet or a Radio frequency. Want to give the kids in your Scout Group the opportunity to make international friends? Then read on because registrations open in August. JOTA-JOTI takes place from 20 to 22 October 2017.
Why should our group register for JOTA-JOTI 2017?
Registration for this years’ JOTA-JOTI event provides your Group access to the International Jamboree page where you will be able to see all the registered stations from around the world. This also gives you the opportunity to contact other stations before the event, and setup a dedicated time etc to make contact. Registration opens in August 2017, but start planning for your event now!
Once registered for either JOTA (Jamboree of the Air) or JOTI (Jamboree on the Internet), read through the requirements and decide what you are able to do. For JOTA, you will need a Radio Amateur (Ham) to assist. There are plenty around the country and the National JOTA-JOTI coordinator, Mr Richard Hooper, can assist you with getting in touch with one of the local Amateur Radio clubs. To contact Richard email richard.hooper@scouts.org.za.
If you register for a JOTI event only, all you need is a computer and an internet connection. All the details are online and available to you when you register, but if you are having problems, contact richard.hooper@scouts.org.za.
It’s not difficult to setup an event at your Scout Hall. All you need is a couple of Cubs and Scouts and a Scouter or two to organize the weekend. It’s a great opportunity to have the Pack and the Troop working together. Run a badge or two over the weekend, and take part in the International game “JamPuz”. If you don’t have the support to run the entire weekend you can choose which days to participate according to your Groups’ schedule. The busiest times are on the Saturday.
A full participants guide can be downloaded from the following web address: http://jotajoti.info/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/JOTA-JOTI-Participants-Guide-V1.pdf. This will help you with information on what to expect with the event if you have never run a JOTA-JOTI.
