Message from Lawrence Stanton, National Young Leaders’ Representative
The National Youth Forum is scheduled to take place immediately before the National Lekgotla this October. The forum is an official meeting representing the interests of our Youth and is chaired by the National Young Leaders’ Representative (NYLR).
The agenda for the forum will cover items brought for discussion by representatives from each Region, the Young Leaders’ Representatives and the Manco. If you have ideas to input, please get these to your Regional Young Leaders’ Representative (RYLR)*, your Group’s nominee or please wait until your Region’s representatives are confirmed.
The basic details are:
Date | Thursday, 1 October 2020 |
Location | AKTV Drakensville — near Sterkfontein Dam in KwaZulu-Natal |
Participants | All members may attend as guests, representatives must be between the ages of 16 and 25. Details will be communicated shortly. |
Cost | TBC. Fee will include accommodation and meals. Transport is excluded but may be arranged for an additional fee once attendance is confirmed. |
There is also opportunity for some additional activities, particularly an excursion to the hydroelectric plant, but everyone should be prepared for a long and hard day’s work nonetheless!
How do I attend?
The forum is made up of some appointed positions and representatives from the Regions, however any member (regardless of age) is welcome to attend as a guest, subject to venue capacity. To be eligible as a representative you must be between the ages of 16 and 25 and be nominated by your Court of Honour or Crew Council, whichever is most appropriate. No paperwork is required for now, but ensure that your nomination is secured as soon as possible. Final details on selection will be communicated on a Region-by-Region basis.
Opportunity to register as a guest will be opened after the representatives are confirmed.
What about the Lekgotla?
All participants should attend and must register for the Lekgotla. Participants are to arrive the day immediately prior on the 30th of September and return after the end of the Lekgotla on the 4th of October. Letters of confirmation are available for work or school if necessary and should be obtained by emailing the NYLR.
Not much to do for now! But spread the word, get yourself nominated and get this on your Group’s radar! Our Youth will have its voice heard on this day!
* The RYLR is in the process of being reintroduced and is still vacant in many Regions. If you would like to apply, please check for your Region’s advert or alternatively contact me by email. To view what the job entails click here.
