Gary Pienaar appointed new Chief Commissioner

As you are aware Andrew Tanner’s term of service as Chief Commissioner comes to an end at the end of January 2020. We had a number of very good candidates and we thank them for their commitment to SCOUTS SA and their willingness to go over and above to see us all thrive.

We are pleased to announce that Mr Gary Pienaar has been appointed and will be taking on the role of Chief Commissioner from the end of January 2020.

In the past years Gary has served on the Scout Board, as Scout Group Leader for 1st Bryanston and in various District, Regional and Training positions. He grew up in the Scout Movement after he joined the 9th Pietermaritzburg Cub Pack, along with his younger brother. Gary has his Leaping Wolf, Springbok and the old Chief Scout’s Awards. He has 3 sons.

When asked about his role as Chief Commissioner, Gary says “Effective Scout Groups are key to delivering a quality programme and making Scouting accessible to the youth. Everything else exists to support those Groups. It’s all about supporting our adult volunteers.”

Gary obtained a BCom degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, completed a MBA through Stellenbosch University and was awarded the Old Mutual Medal for exceptional academic achievement. He currently works for Tiger Brands Limited, and has experience in both business unit and group management roles.

Join us in welcoming Gary to the National team. We look forward to his contribution as he builds on the admirable foundations that Andrew has established.
